THE COAST

Not just
a day trip.

Cape Coast and Elmina are often places people come to see. We think they’re places worth staying for.

Explore the history. Walk through Elmina. Visit the harbour. Spend the afternoon along the coast. Then leave enough time to come back to Komenda — to the pool, dinner, fire after dark and another morning by the Atlantic.

Explore the Coast

EXPLORE THE COAST

Go out.
Come back.

To understand this part of Ghana, give it more than an afternoon. The Central Region holds stories of trade, enslavement and diaspora alongside living coastal communities and protected rainforest. Yves & Saints gives you somewhere to return to between them.

01

Elmina

A living fishing town shaped by centuries of global history. St. George’s d’Elmina Castle was built by the Portuguese in 1482, first serving the gold trade and later becoming deeply connected to the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Today it forms part of Ghana’s UNESCO-listed forts and castles. Step beyond its walls and Elmina is very much alive — fishing boats entering the harbour, the market in motion and a community whose story did not end with the history preserved inside the castle.

02

Cape Coast

One of the places where the history of Ghana and the African diaspora meet. Cape Coast Castle was a major European trading post that became a central site in the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Its dungeons and passage toward the Atlantic confront visitors with the human reality behind that history. The wider city also became an important centre of British colonial administration and education in the Gold Coast. Cape Coast deserves time not simply as a monument, but as a city whose history reaches far beyond Ghana.

03

Kakum National Park

The Central Region changes completely when the coast gives way to rainforest. Kakum protects part of Ghana’s moist evergreen forest and a rich ecosystem of mammals, birds, butterflies, reptiles and plant life. Its celebrated canopy walkway carries visitors through the treetops, offering a perspective on the forest that cannot be experienced from the ground. It is the natural counterpoint to the region’s historic towns — proof that exploring the Central Region is as much about landscape as history.

04

Assin Manso

A place of remembrance on the forced journey to the coast. Assin Manso was a major gathering and transit point for captive Africans being marched toward the forts and castles at Cape Coast and Elmina. At the Ancestral Slave River, remembered as the site of the “Last Bath,” captives bathed before continuing the final stage toward the coast and forced departure across the Atlantic. The site’s Ancestral Graveyard and Memorial Wall of Return give it another meaning today: a place where descendants of the diaspora can remember, mourn and reconnect.

05

Return to Yves & Saints

The day does not have to end with a drive back to Accra. Return to the villas in Komenda. Get in the pool. Eat by the coast. Open something cold. Sit beside the fire and let what you have seen settle. Wake up beside the Atlantic and decide what tomorrow becomes. That is the idea behind Yves & Saints — Cape Coast and Elmina are not just a day trip. The coast can be the stay.

AT THE TABLE

Some moments are
meant to linger.

Breakfast that runs late. Something poured cold by the pool. Dinner shared as the light disappears.

At Yves & Saints, the table is less about the hour — and more about who is around it.

RITUALS OF YVES & SAINTS

The little things
become the stay.

Not everything needs to be an activity. Some moments simply become part of the rhythm here — something cold in hand, the coast at first light, and fire after dark.
